Although we've heard a lot about the PS5 Pro as a mid-gen refresh for Sony, one insider warns that the mythical console's release might not be as soon as we expected.

The current console generation could be looking at some new additions this year, with many expecting Nintendo to step up to the plate with a successor to the record-breaking success of the Switch. Fans are still hoping that there's going to be some kind of mid-generation upgrade for the consoles that are leading the charge on actual processing power.
We've seen it before with the Switch OLED edition and even upgraded versions of the Xbox One and PS4 in the last generation, so gamers are getting their hopes up - though one insider has claimed that it might be wise to temper those PlayStation expectations.
Insider claims that the PS5 Pro is coming this year - but later than hoped
Insider Tom Henderson has revealed in a tweet that he doesn't expect the rumoured PS5 Pro reveal at this year's CES conference to be legitimate. Instead, he's anticipating the console's reveal later on in the year. It's a frustrating notion for some, but ultimately, rumours about the pro console are a little thin on the ground in the first place.
Given the proximity to the release of the PS5 Slim in November 2023, Henderson doesn't imagine the gaming giant would drop another brand-new console so soon after. More likely, he's looking toward a Q3 announcement.
We don't have any actual information regarding the upgraded console, and its appearance would still be a great surprise - especially as the current PS5 model and its recent redesign are already powerful enough to see itself through to the other side of the console generation.
Tom Henderson thinks revealing a PS5 Pro mid-year would be a mistake
As one fan responded to Henderson suggesting that the reveal would be barebones if it occurred mid-year as its arrival is expected in 2025, he adds that it'd be a foolish move for PlayStation to hint and tease at something new and harm sales.
It's a fair point, and one that Sony superfans might have to consider when getting excited for a new console any time soon. Sorry, everyone, your current super-powerful new-generation console will have to do for the time being.
