The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is out now on Switch 2, as Nintendo's ground-up remake of the 1998 classic finally landed on Thursday, November 5 after what feels like a lifetime of fans asking for it.
Nintendo UK also marked the occasion with a midnight launch in London, where buyers picked up a free replica N64 box for their copy, which might be the most nostalgic freebie we've seen all year.
What time did Ocarina of Time unlock in the UK?
The game went live overnight at midnight UK time, in line with Nintendo's usual pattern for big eShop releases, so if you pre-ordered digitally it should already be sitting there ready to play.
It's been available to pre-load since October 29, and a small update unlocks it on release day, which installs by itself as long as your Switch 2 was online in sleep mode. If yours still says you can't play it yet, connect to the internet and open the game again so the update can download.
How much is Ocarina of Time on Switch 2?
The digital version is £49.99 on the UK eShop, with physical copies listed from around £55 at UK retailers. Buy it digitally before November 23 and Nintendo will also send you a Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary wallpaper through My Nintendo once the offer ends.
You'll want to clear some space too, as the UK eShop lists it at 24.5GB while Nintendo of Japan recommends 27GB of free space, so it's safest to plan for the bigger number.
Hey, listen! There was a midnight launch in London
According to VGC, the launch took place at the Nintendo store inside Argos on Tottenham Court Road, where anyone who bought the game got a replica of the original UK N64 box, complete with an inner tray and a slipcase that fits the Switch 2 copy, plus an Ocarina key ring while stocks lasted.
What's new in the Ocarina of Time remake?
This is a lot more than a quick polish, as Nintendo describes it as built from the ground up for Switch 2, with overhauled visuals, an orchestral soundtrack, voice acting and expanded cutscenes. Link can now jump and dash, and the camera finally behaves like it belongs in this decade.
The ocarina is the real star, though, because you can play songs with the buttons, hum them into the Switch 2 microphone or even play a real instrument at it, which is either delightful or a recipe for annoying everyone on your train. It's developed by Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 3, the team behind Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and there's a new Hall of Fallen Heroes area where you can learn about bosses you've beaten and fight them again.
Well, after 28 years it's finally time to head back to Kokiri Forest, so we'd suggest warming up those vocal cords for the Song of Storms. Keep an eye on our Zelda coverage, as we'll have guides up over the coming days.
