Just when you think the console wars have died down, they suddenly start heating up again. While Nintendo has largely sat at the sidelines and done its own thing as Sony and Microsoft lock horns, things are about to kick into overdrive with rumours of a Nintendo Switch successor.

It's been seven years since the home-portable hybrid broke records and continued to top the charts as the best-selling console year after year, but all good things must come to an end. With the mythical Switch 2 hopefully coming in 2025, Nintendo is already looking to tackle one of the OG's biggest problems.

Switch 2 hopes to tackle scalpers

Nintendo Switch family

As reported by VGC, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has reassured fans that the gaming giant is hoping to tackle scalpers to make sure resellers don't push up console prices. Furukawa told gamers that Nintendo's top priority is to produce enough consoles to meet customer demand.

He added that Nintendo is looking into other measures, "Taking into account the circumstances in each region." Previously, a shortage of semiconductors hindered the production processes of the Switch, which in turn, pushed prices up due to scalping.

"Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor components, but this situation has now been resolved," said Furukawa. "At present, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model."

Still, we're left waiting for further updates on where the Switch successor is. Nintendo confirmed the next console will be announced "this fiscal year," so we'll at least know what to call it by the end of March 2025. Then again, that doesn't mean we'll be able to play the console next year.

We're currently lost in a sea of rumours about what exactly the Switch successor will include. Alongside leaks about magnetic Joy-Cons and a bigger screen, there's a rumoured $400 price tag. The Switch successor has apparently been delayed from its original release, but as ever, Furukawa is keeping his cards close to his chest.
