While we knew it was only a matter of time until Sony announced the PlayStation 5 Pro, we don't imagine the Blue Team was expecting such a divisive reception to the mid-gen refresh. As well as worries about some technical limitations, the PS5 Pro's biggest stumbling block is the bank-busting $700 price tag (without a stand or disc drive).
Still, as the gold standard of gaming, we imagine the PS5 Pro will still be flying off shelves in November. In other corners of the industry, we know Microsoft is releasing the 2TB Galaxy Black Xbox in October, but what about Nintendo's next offering? We've heard a lot about the mythical Switch 2, and now, someone claims to have the inside track.

As the console wars rumble on and it continues to be Microsoft vs Sony, Nintendo is quite happy doing its own thing with its own impressive library of first-party titles. There's no arguing over who gets to play The Last of Us and what's going on with Call of Duty here. Instead, Nintendo sits pretty with Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and the rest.
Nintendo's big selling point is its catalogue of games, but they're useless unless we have something to play them on. Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, gamers have pointed to a supposed up-and-coming leaker who correctly revealed the PS5 Pro release date and price tag ahead of time.
Although the insider's credentials are unverified, they suggest the Switch 2 (or whatever it's called) will come in at a respectable $400. The Switch successor will reportedly be announced early next month, meaning we should look out for an announcement in October.
There's also a mention of the 'base' Switch costing $400, and with two SKUs, there could be a standard and pricier version akin to the Lite and OLED. Considering the Switch was released for $300 in 2017, a $100 increase for the next generation of consoles isn't too bad.
Others in the thread agreed, with one fan referring to $400 as the 'sweet spot', adding, "Anything higher would be a mistake IMO." Another said, "I'd pay $500 for the OLED version and hope that it is at least somewhat more powerful than the Series S."
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the next console will be announced before the end of March 2025, but that doesn't narrow down a release window. Still, a $400 price tag is better than other whispers that it'll come in at $500. Only time will tell which of these wild rumours are on the money, but either way, we're one step closer to a Mario Odyssey sequel.
