Good news if you've been eyeing up a Switch 2 for Christmas, as Nintendo says it isn't currently considering another price rise for the console, even with the memory shortage still squeezing the whole games industry.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said the company is in a position to secure enough memory for the Switch 2, according to a Reuters report covered by Nintendo Life after Nintendo's latest earnings results this week, and VGC also reports that Nintendo has no plans for a further price increase.
Sales are down, but Link might sort that out
The reassurance arrived alongside some less cheerful numbers, as Nintendo's results showed Switch 2 hardware sales down around 37% year-on-year and profits down 16%, though VGC points out that the console is still comfortably outselling the original Switch.
Nintendo Life reports that the Switch 2 has now sold more than 26 million units, and that Nintendo is sticking with its forecast of over 16 million for the current financial year, which is a dip on last year but still the kind of number most hardware makers would happily frame and hang in reception.
The Switch 2 already went up in price earlier this year, rising by $50 in the US and by £24 in the UK according to Nintendo Life, which was fairly gentle compared to some of the increases PlayStation and Xbox owners have had to swallow, with VGC noting that every current-generation console now costs more than it did at launch.
Nintendo will be hoping the Ocarina of Time remake gives the console a festive push, and it's off to a flying start after becoming the highest-rated game of 2026 on Metacritic, while our Ocarina of Time UK price and file size guide has everything else you need if you've not picked it up yet.
Not considering a price change right now isn't quite the same as promising one will never happen, especially with the memory shortage expected to drag on into 2027, but for the time being it looks like the price you see this Christmas is the price you'll pay.
Well, that's one less thing to worry about while you're stuck in the Water Temple.
