With the days counting down until the Modern Warfare 2 launch, starting with the week of the campaign early access, Activision has been up to its usual tricks of throwing cash at celebs for endorsements and trailer cameos to try and build up hype.

Two years ago - when the Modern Warfare series reboot was passing the Warzone torch onto Tryearch with Verdansk 84 - the developers stunned fans by releasing a real-life action trailer showing off the likes of Jack Harlow, Jack Grealish, and Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag flying through the map and jamming out to Aerosmith while blowing up choppers.

This wasn't the first time either, given that Jonah Hill starred in a MW3 trailer and Kit Harrington's appearance in Advanced Warfare was a welcome sight with Game of Thrones fans. However, this year, the live-action trailer has not been well received.

Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Bukayo Saka, And More Make Cameos In MW2 Trailer

With only ten days (and counting) until Modern Warfare 2 is released, the team released a new trailer featuring a list of celebrities, signing a campfire-esque chant. A bit like the boy scouts, Lil Baby kicks off the 'Squad Up' beat.

The trailer also features singers Nicki Minaj and Kane Brown, comedian Pete Davidson, English footballer Bukayo Saka, F1's Lando Norris, Linebacker David Long Jr., Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and Call of Duty superstar team "Nuke Squad" (including FaZe Clan quad Kris "Swagg" Lamberson, Jordan "JSmooth" Cox, Dante "Santanta" Santana, and Ean "Booya" Chase).

The video comes shortly after Cardi B revealed that she lost a multi-million dollar opportunity with Call of Duty, indicating that she might also have played a big part in the trailer among other promotional appearances.

New celeb-led MW2 trailer branded as Cringe

Having usually gone down a treat, this years live-action trailer has not been well received, with many people slandering it as 'cringe'. "Can’t make this up.. typed cringe in YouTube this popped up," one fan joked on Twitter, while another added, "Cringe. Wow that’s tough to watch".

Unlike previous years, the trailer has strayed away from immersing the celebs into a Call of Duty battleground, and instead, had them sitting on couches or riding bikes. Despite the failed coup at impressing the usual Call of Duty fans, Activsion hopes that the star-studded line up will influence more non-Call of Duty advocates to pick up Modern Warfare 2.
