Since 2003, Call of Duty has come a long way.
The pixellated shooter that was the first CoD is a distant memory, but as we prepare to take a trip down memory lane with Modern Warfare 3 and the old-school map pool, it looks like the devs have more nostalgia up their sleeve.
According to leaks, the developers are planning on building on top of the already-released 20-year anniversary rewards by releasing throwback seasons in Modern Warfare 3.
Call of Duty reportedly adding 'throwback seasons' to Modern Warfare 3
As part of the live-action service model for Modern Warfare 3, it has been reported that there will be throwback seasons which will celebrate a different game in the series each time.
Already, Season 3 has been leaked to be Advanced Warfare-themed, with four weapons coming as a minimum, and the possibilities endless surrounding jetpack LTMs and game modes like Uplink.
But this isn't set to be a one-off season, as leakers and content creators have eluded to each season having a different celebration, with six different games in total being honoured.
Call of Duty 4 and Advanced Warfare seasons leaked for Modern Warfare 3
Content Creator "ProReborn" has projected that on top of AW in Season 3, the first season will be based on Call of Duty: 4, as the map Comeback has already been found within the Warzone map and will come as a multiplayer map under a different name.
Although there is some Black Ops influence in the game, it's probable that the throwback seasons will not include the Treyarch games, given that Call of Duty 2025 is set to be a Black Ops throwback title like Modern Warfare 3 is to MW2.
Instead, expect some Ghosts content and maybe some more Modern Warfare influence from both series.
