MW3 fans demand even more nerfs to 'OP' Riot Shields in Season 2

Modern Warfare 3 fans have once again voiced their frustration about the Riot Shield, arguing the "OP" weapon needs even more nerfs.

In the history of Call of Duty, there have been countless weapons that have garnered a poor reputation in the community.

These are usually guns that have been deemed unbelievably strong, like the akimbo Model 1887s from MW2 (2009) or the DMR from the Verdansk-era of Warzone.

Despite this, none of them come close to the hatred felt for one very special weapon that never fails to make an appearance every year. We're of course talking about the iconic Riot Shield that's still causing havoc in MW3.

Although it was hit with a nerf in Season 1, the community still think the handheld barricade is far too "OP" and needs changes.

MW3 fans still absolutely hate the Riot Shield in multiplayer

MW3 Riot Shield

In Season 1 of MW3, Sledgehammer hit the Riot Shield with a nerf that added a movement penalty to any Operator with it equipped, even if it was just your back.

Unfortunately, while a good start to bringing the barricade in line, some fans still despise running into it multiplayer and have voiced their frustration on the ModernWarfareIII subreddit.

"Easy fix would be to just get rid of shields - if you buy an FPS game to hide behind a shield you should do something else," argued one player, with another claiming, "Riot shields have zero drawbacks and need it, the amount of people who just camp a corner in search and run down the timer is so annoying."

With it only being a season since the last set of Riot Shield nerfs, it's hard to know if the devs have anything planned for Season 2. Either way, competitors have plenty of changes in mind and have put them forward in the hopes that Sledgehammer will notice.

CoD players suggest bullet piercing nerf for Riot Shields

One of the most popular ideas for the Riot Shield is allowing armour-piercing rounds to deal a small of damage to those who use the barricade. That way, there would be a method of shooting through the shield for a kill if you put enough bullets into a foe.

"Self-explanatory, armour-piercing rounds can shoot through metal and concrete yet they can't penetrate a plastic shield? This at least would give us an option on how to counter the riot shield."

Another option put forward is adding a "stamina" mechanic to Riot Shields, where if it is hit enough times in a row, it causes the user to stagger and become open to gunfire.

These are all interesting suggestions, but for now, they're all firmly fixed in the community ideas column. Whether the devs take any notice is another question, especially with all the Season 2 content that's in the works.
