Modern Warfare 2 fans have expressed their anger at the latest change in the microtransaction industry, and are actively boycotting the Season 5 Battle Pass after finding out that the developers have made one major change.
Usually, the Modern Warfare 2 Battle Pass is a best-seller. In fact, the premium upgraded BlackCell bundle actually out-sold Starfield pre-orders in Season 4 to prove its popularity.
But in Season 5, players are fuming. It's after the developers chose to up the token count to unlock the new weapons, pushing many over the edge to boycott the subscription.
Modern Warfare 2 ups token requirement for new Battle Pass weapons
With the arrival of some classic Black Ops weapons into Modern Warfare 2, players have been itching to get their hands on them and get to grips with how they'll play out in both Warzone and multiplayer.
However, you'll have to put in some serious hours this time around, as the developers have moved weapons into the seventh tier of the battle pass. This means it now takes a minimum of 35 tokens to unlock both guns.
It's up from the usual 30 (which has been the case since the live-service passes were deployed in Modern Warfare 2019).
Fans have now pointed out that this takes approximately 15 to 18 hours to complete, which is a much bigger step up from previous seasons, just to unlock the meta weapons.
Modern Warfare 2 fans boycott Season 5 Battle Pass
With the new changes, players have confessed that they will not be getting this pass, even if they have the required CoD Points remaining from last time.
"This is why I am not even doing the BP this season. I don't need to play MW2 like it's a job to finish the BP," one fan said on Reddit.
This season is also much shorter than usual too, following Season 4 in being a seven-week season. "The ONLY thing that I have continued to give them money for is the battle pass. I’m no longer buying that either," added another fan.
Unfortunately for the boycott, it doesn't seem to have caught on too well with the larger community. The BlackCell upgrade has found itself in the top-five best-selling items list on Steam once again.
