2023 will mark ten years since Naughty Dog took us into the apocalyptic adventure that is The Last of Us. While the future of the franchise might seem like it's lost in limbo right now, the latest leaks claim multiple games are ready to expand the IP.

After 2013's The Last of Us became lauded as one of the best games of all time, we had the Left Behind DLC and Factions multiplayer. Then, nothing. It wasn't until 2020 that The Last of Us Part II came to PlayStation, with players still waiting for the mythical multiplayer and the title proving to be more divisive than anyone could've thought.

Are Multiple The Last Of Us Games On The Way?

Despite the sometimes frosty reception, The Last of Us Part II got for that shocking death, a flip to the antagonistic Abby in the second half, and accusations of an LGBTQ+ agenda, Sony would be foolish to abandon this golden goose after just two games. Thankfully, it doesn't sound like this is the case at all.

According to industry insider Tom Henderson, "multiple" games set in this world are on track for release in 2022 or by the end of 2023. Henderson doesn't reveal who his sources are, however, he's suggested that if something related to The Last of Us is going to release this Christmas, we can expect to find out more soon.

An easy sell would be the long-awaited Factions 2. Originally pitched as a multiplayer add-on to Part II, it sounds like the idea has since evolved to a standalone TLoU multiplayer game. Looking further ahead, we'd be surprised if Naughty Dog didn't celebrate the OG's 10-year anniversary with a remaster in 2023.

Will We See The Last Of Us Part 3?

Sony is pretty good with its timings, and let's remember the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection released just before the Tom Holland-led Uncharted. Considering HBO has just confirmed The Last of Us series will land in 2023, it doesn't take a genius to figure out something is on the way next year.

Even though we doubt any of these rumoured projects is the mythical Part III, that doesn't mean Neil Druckmann and co. aren't planning the next mainline adventure. Last year, he confirmed a potential third game already has a story. Whether we get a remake, a Part II DLC, Factions 2, or something completely different, we can hear the clicking of the Clickers from here.
