With Modern Warfare 2, it looked like Call of Duty had meandered out of the Scump-professed 'slide cancelling era', as the advance movement was nerfed into the ground in favour of slower and more calculated play styles (cough, sentinels, cough).

But as Modern Warfare 3 approaches, it looks like pace is being injected back into the series.

According to leaks surrounding the new Warzone map and the next instalment of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is being built with slide cancelling activated.

Modern Warfare 3 leaker claims slide cancelling is back

Call of Duty leaker and content creator "Metaphor" has come up trumps with a wealth of information surrounding Modern Warfare and the new Warzone map, claiming that the early looks are "amazing".

But more significantly, he's now claimed that "slide cancelling is in the current build" for Modern Warfare 3, which should see more movement options and some tinkering to how Warzone plays too.

"Game looks exactly like MW2 but improved, hoping they make animations smooth/faster," he added.

However, it might all be too good to be true, as he soon elaborated that Modern Warfare 2 also had slide cancelling in its early builds, even lapping into the Beta in some capacity too, hinting at its removal before the game becomes available to the public in October.

Do Call of Duty fans want slide cancelling back in Modern Warfare 3?

Activision has been firmly listening to feedback from Call of Duty fans in recent weeks, quizzing the community about TTK rates in-game, meaning that they will also be awaiting comments about slide cancelling too, which has opened the floor to opinions from some high-profile figures.

"Reminder that slide cancelling itself as an action does not mean it resets tac sprint! Slide cancelling is a good thing. Resetting tac sprint part is not," said popular leaker "TheGhostOfHope" on Twitter.

Many other fans agree, that allowing slide cancelling will open a skill gap up in terms of close-quarters combat, but not to the point where people can exploit it with a quick escape, which makes any kills "tradeable".

Others just don't want to see the mechanic back at all and prefer Modern Warfare 2's movement, just with better footstep muffles.

With the beta expected for October and a worldwide reveal in August, more Modern Warfare 3 features are soon to be revealed.
