If you thought that having a two-year-long Call of Duty game would save your wallet from an annual  whack, then you're set to be sorely mistaken. Apparently, Modern Warfare 2 is getting back in bed with paid DLCs next year.

Since Modern Warfare 2019, DLC content was intertwined with the seasonal updates - becoming a mandatory download if you wanted to play the game. With new maps, weapons, and characters coming at no cost but your sanity of watching hundreds of GBs eating away at your hard drive, you wouldn't need to spend a penny all year around.

It worked great because you could even purchase one Battle Pass early on and continue to accrue the requirements for the next season's premium rewards and save your bank from a blasting. However, come the mid-way stage of the Modern Warfare 2 cycle, it appears that premium DLCs are returning, and this one might be quite a cash grab.

Campaign DLCs Coming TO Modern Warfare 2

After leaking that MW2 will play host to a 'Greatest Hits' map pack, featuring maps from all games rather than just the Infinity Ward-created ones, popular community figure "TheGhotsOfHope" has now detailed the DLC that will also come with a campaign continuation. Obviously, this will ramp up the price.

Taking to social media, the leaker reported that a campaign DLC will be bundled with the 2023 map pack, kicking on from the storyline we will see at the start of MW2. The current campaign features the popular Task Force 141, including a new-look General Shepherd.

Modern Warfare 2 DLC Is 'Like A New Game'

A usual Call of Duty title features a campaign, multiplayer, and a third mode (Zombies, Special Ops etc.). So, considering there's potentially a DLC coming with an entire campaign add-on and a whole catalogue of maps (expected to be around 20, if not more), the 2023 content is practically a new game.

Modern Warfare 2 (b), as we might as well start calling it, is just a third game mode short of being a standalone title. However, when you bear in mind that the spin-off DMZ mode will also be released post-launch, it will further add to the feeling of a new game coming out next year. "At this point might as well make it a new game," one fan said on Twitter.

While the DLC might take a chunk out of your October 2023 wage packet, the content does sound incredible, and we already can't get enough of the new character Vargas and Shepherd's bald makeover.
