It's been a long time coming, and we're dying to see more of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Solid Snake made a modern console splash when he reappeared in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection's first volume, and ever since, we've been wondering what's next for the espionage series.
Even though it might be without Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater promises to be a new-gen remake that pulls out all the stops. Following a reveal at May 2023's State of Play, we're no closer to understanding what we can expect - and when exactly we can expect it.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is MIA at PlayStation's State of Play
We knew the January 31 State of Play presentation was coming, and it hasn't disappointed when it comes to reveals for Rise of the Ronin and Judas, but for many, the supposed headliner of the night was going to be the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake.
There wasn't so much as a sniff of gameplay for the long-awaited remake, meaning we were missing out on our hopes of treading the same swamps and marshlands that we got to experience the first time around in 2004. Instead, Hideo Kojima announced an MGS-esque game called Physint.
Fans have been nervous about the stealth title's approach to Unreal Engine 5, taking a pretty harsh deviation away from the Fox Engine that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain got comfortable in. The January State of Play would've been the perfect time to put us at ease.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater still doesn't have a release date
Aside from a vague release window of 2024, we don't know when we'll be able to dive back into Snake's world. Sony confirmed a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth showcase for February 6, but as Kojima took all the hype, MGS has been left to fend for itself.
At least things are seemingly still on track for 2024, even if that could be anywhere in the next 11 months. Patience is a virtue, and now, we just have to play the waiting game. Bring on our scrap with The Boss.
