NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat series has more than embraced its Kameo fighters as a part of its ongoing lifeblood, and it isn't just the recent games that have brought it to life.

We're obviously glad to see Homelander touch down, but this is a long-standing tradition that's brought the likes of the Terminator T-800, Jason Voorhees, and Kratos to the tournament of all tournaments.

And though it surprisingly won't be a part of the Kameo tradition, there's a pretty massive name joining the game in the latest instalment. Yes, Megan Fox is sinking her teeth into Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat 1 welcomes Megan Fox as Nitara

In a pretty shocking reveal, it has been announced that the vampiric Nitara will be returning to the franchise as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. Better yet, she'll be voiced by none other than Megan Fox.

The news was revealed in a new video that showed off Nitara's moves while Megan Fox narrated why she chose to join the fight. "She comes from this weird realm, she is a type of vampire creature," says Fox. "She's evil but she's also good. She's trying to save her people. I really like her."

Harking back to her Jennifer's Body days (although that was technically a demon), Fox added, "She's a vampire which obviously resonates for whatever reason. It's cool to be in the game, you know? Because I'm not really just voicing it, it'll be like she's kind of me."

It's not all pretending you're in Buffy the Vampire Slayer though, "As I've been doing the sessions, it does force me to tap into areas of myself that I'm not comfortable [with]," said Fox. It looks like this is one of her gnarliest roles, and seeing Jennifer's Body, we can say safely that's a pretty high bar to cross.

Megan Fox grew up playing Mortal Kombat

As the video goes on to show off some of Nitara's pretty gnarly fatalities, Fox comments that she's glad to be a part of the game after growing up along with it. "I think it's just like an opportunity that anybody would want. Cause we did all grow up playing the game and it is one of the greatest video games of all time."

There's plenty of hype surrounding Mortal Kombat 1 ahead of its imminent September 14 release. Having a Hollywood A-lister lend their talents is a cool addition to the game that has reimagined a lot of characters already, and will no doubt make for a pretty sweet experience. Looks like you've just found your new main.
