While it might be a while until Mass Effect 4 is in our hands, recent teasers seem to suggest the return of one of the community's favourite super soldiers.

A new transmission was received on this year's edition of N7 Day, giving excited fans a short glimpse of a character walking through a tunnel. It wasn't the teaser's central figure that drew the most intrigue, as something was hiding in the shadows, and the music seemed to hint towards a much more meaningful return.

Grunting in the shadows

Mass Effect News on Twitter seemed to notice that a Krogan was lurking behind our central figure in the new N7 teaser. While it's incredibly difficult to make out much more than a silhouetted blob, keen-eyed viewers can make out the distinctive head and arm of the genetically enhanced super soldiers.

Krogans do exist in both the original Mass Effect trilogy and the most recent game, Andromeda - so it is no surprise to players that one might be hanging in the background of Mass Effect 4.

It is still very tough to distinguish, though, so you'd definitely need something more concrete in order to make any clear conclusions or to see it as anything more than a Krogan in the background.

Memories of Aralakh Company

Thankfully, there is a little more to discover than just a blurry Krogan in the distance, as Kala Elizabeth on Twitter details that it was the Aralakh Company music - "Grunt's Theme" - that was playing throughout this teaser, as reported by ComicBook.

This is definitely more of a nod to seasoned players that fan-favourite companion Grunt might just be making a comeback in the newest entry after he was missing from Andromeda. This might just be a little easter egg for hardcore fans, as it does seem like Shepard won't be making a return - but we will just have to wait and see.
