Who you gonna call? We’ve already heard that a Mario Cinematic Universe is on the way, and although the currently untitled Mario movie isn’t even out yet, one of the stars has shared their grand plans for what could come next. Is Luigi's Mansion movie really on the cards?

While the idea of Chris Pratt's non-Italian version of the portly plumber holding up his own franchise might fill some of us with dread, there’s plenty of potential to be had. From a Bowser origin story that shows the terrifying turtle's softer side, to an Indiana Jones-inspired version of Toad's Treasure Tracker, we've got plenty of ideas.

Who Wants A Luigi’s Mansion Movie?

In an interview with ComicBook.com, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Charlie Day has shared his hopes for a Luigi's Mansion movie. For those who don’t know, Day is already signed on to star alongside Pratt as Luigi in the Mario movie.

Discussing a Luigi's Mansion movie, Day told the site: "My son was just playing Luigi's Mansion the other day on his Switch. Look, I'm thrilled to get the opportunity, I grew up playing Super Mario Brothers as did everyone I know so, we'll see! It's like anything else in life, I'll go if I'm invited!"

It’s not quite "a Luigi's Mansion movie is in the works," but if Day is willing to continue his role as Mario’s younger brother, we say why not. If anything, these comments could at least spark the idea in the mind of a Universal Studios executive.

Will We Get A Luigi’s Mansion Movie?

Japan's Super Nintendo World has already teased a Donkey Kong expansion - which was quickly followed by reports of a Donkey Kong movie with Seth Rogan’s angry ape. Even if we don't get a Luigi's Mansion movie, a theme park ride similar to Disney's Haunted Mansion seems inevitable. Either way, it's likely Universal has big plans for its Nintendo IPs.

Coming to the GameCube in 2001, Luigi's Mansion was the console's first Mario game and finally gave Luigi his time to shine. Exploring the titular mansion, Luigi was tasked with bustin' ghosts by Professor E. Gadd - using the trusty Poltergust 3000. The Mario spin-off was a huge hit and led to two sequels, with the latest coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2019. Even though nothing is official yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if a Luigi's Mansion movie is already out there in the aether.
