Somehow, The Mario Kart 8 DLC Just Got Even Worse

We're all pulling the Evil Luigi face right now, as the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC is disappointing players across the board. Instead of the much-rumoured Mario Kart 9 being announced at 2022's first Nintendo Direct, we were left with the lacklustre announcement of another Mario Kart 8 DLC.
Remembering that the 2017 revamp of 2014's Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U has gone on to become the best-selling Switch game of all time, it makes sense that Nintendo wants to squeeze every coin out of this racing goliath. Sadly, that involves charging you to replay classic Mario Kart tracks simply for the nostalgia.
What's Wrong With The Mario Kart 8 DLC Now?
The "Booster Course Pass" is due to race into our lives next month and will come with a beefy price tag of $24.99 or made available through the monthly subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. That seems pretty steep considering we're getting revamped versions of classic tracks. The only positive is that we get 48 of these between March and the end of next year.
Posting on Twitter, @DynamoSuperX said: "I dunno if this is gonna bother people but I feel like it should be pointed out: The tracks they're adding to MK8 Deluxe look completely different from the courses in the original game. The art style looks just like the Mario Kart Tour app, how do y'all feel about this?"
If you don't know, Mario Kart Tour is the free-to-start mobile game that tried to capitalise on the popularity of the Mario Kart IP. With this being a mobile game, you can imagine the graphics aren't exactly rivalling the Switch, so it would be a massive middle finger if the "Booster Course Pass" is just porting Tour tracks.
What Have Fans Said About The Mario Kart 8 DLC?
It seems the OP isn't alone in their grumbles about a sneaky way to snatch our money. Responding to the tweet, one wrote: "I wouldn't mind if these tracks were its own game, but since it's tied to 8, they just look unfinished. solid colors with no texturework done looks really different from the fleshed out more realistic approach 8 originally had."
Another added: "Finally someone else talking about it. Looks awful. They’re literally direct ports of the untextured models from Tour (a mobile game). Not a good look at all. Most disappointing part about the whole thing." A third concluded: "We’re excited now but soon people are gonna start realising they just ported all the courses from Tour. With none of the new characters, outfits or Karts."
While most of us might think there's no tread on the Mario Kart 8 tyres, Nintendo is desperate to prove there's still some gas in the tank.
