James Gunn might be snatching the great and the good of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his rebranded DC Universe, but if he gets Pratt, Saldana, and Bautista, we could be in for a fair trade of Margot Robbie. That's right, the latest rumours claim the Clown Princess of Crime could be flexing her spandex in the MCU.

While the DC Extended Universe proved not every shared universe can have the success of the MCU, highlights included Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn. As well as two Suicide Squad movies, Robbie held down the underrated Birds of Prey. She's the kind of A-lister you'd expect in the MCU, but has she packed her bags?

What's the Magot Robbie/MCU rumour?

According to noted insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), Robbie has been offered the role of Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The upcoming casting is sure to be one of the franchise's hottest tickets, with Robbie's name being thrown around just after Killie Eve's Jodie Comer denied her own involvement.

We're only going off Richtman's scoop for now, but if it's gospel, other names in the mix could include Comer, M3GAN's Allison Williams, and Mila Kunis. An altogether stranger rumour recently claimed Kunis was in the running to play a gender-flipped Ben Grimm, aka the Thing in the 2025 reboot.

When it comes to the rest of the cast, Richtman suggests Star Wars' Adam Driver for Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, and Aftersun's Paul Mezcal as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch. All of this is a million miles away from fan castings of John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and Zac Efron, as Richards and the Storm siblings.

Is Margot Robbie leaving the DCU?

Even though Robbie's DCU return isn't confirmed, the Viola Davis-led Waller and Peacemaker Season 2 seem like likely places for a cameo from Dr. Quinzel. There's been no word that she's going anywhere, and although Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot have been shown the door, Robbie falls into that grey area like Zachary Levi.

It's unclear what Gunn has planned for the rest of the old guard, but when asked if he'd work with Robbie again following 2021's The Suicide Squad, Gunn simply wrote, "For sure." Even then, it's possible Harley's time is done and he could cast her in one of the many other DCU projects that are largely starting from scratch.

Gunn recently debunked whispers that Robbie will reprise her role for a Quinn origin story called Harleen, throwing some water on the fires that her return is just around the corner. At least with a free schedule, it would give Robbie the chance to suit up in the MCU. We know it's the Invisible Woman, but watch this space.
