Esports is coming home. Another large competitive gaming tournament will make it to the UK, with the BLAST R6 Major being announced to be hosted in Manchester in May 2024.
The city is set to host the first BLAST R6 Major of the season, marking a significant milestone for the United Kingdom in the esports arena.
Major Event, Major Expectations
The BLAST R6 Major in Manchester, scheduled from May 16 to May 26, will see 20 elite teams from across nine regions fight it out for the trophy. These teams will battle it out at the B.E.C Arena for a prize pool of $750,000 (~£589,000).
The Major is set to unfold in three phases, with the final weekend open to the public, where thousands of fans are expected to gather and experience the event live.
While the initial phases of the Majoe from May 16 to May 22 isn't open to the public, the concluding phase from May 24 to May 26 promises a thrilling experience for attendees. Tickets for the event are available for purchase at Live Nation.
The United Kingdom's rising profile in esports
The selection of Manchester as the host city for the BLAST R6 Major underlines the growing significance of the United Kingdom in the esports sector. For Rainbow Six specifically, the country has been a nurturing ground for talent in Rainbow Six Siege esports.
This includes teams like Wolves Esports, MNM Esports, and Fnatic, as well as players such as Jack "Doki" Robertson, Byron "Blurr" Murray, and Leon "LeonGids" Giddens making a mark on the global stage.
BLAST's R6 event joins the good company of major esports events around the industry taking place in the UK. ESL One Birmingham is set to bring Dota 2 action to the Kingdom, while the Summoner's Cup in the largest esports tournament, the League of Legends World Championship, will be crowned in London this year.
