As expected, Black Ops 6 is already being tipped to be the best Call of Duty since the golden era of MW2 and BO2. It's rather ironic, given that this title is canonically a sequel to Black Ops 2 despite being made 12 years later.
The first-ever look at Black Ops 6 has left expectations through the roof as to what the future holds. But what about the past? What about the legacy games? What about that Xbox Game Pass malarkey? Hello??
Xbox skipped straight over legacy Call of Duty games
Microsoft looked to have been gearing up for a Call of Duty takeover for Xbox Game Pass as Black Ops 6 was confirmed to be the first title in the series to land on the subscription service.
But fan expectations that older games would also join the upcoming AAA title have now been squandered somewhat, as Microsoft completely neglected the topic at its Xbox Showcase.
Having announced a string of AAA titles will be on Game Pass from day one, such as Black Ops 6, Doom: The Dark Ages and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the publisher didn't make any reference to the old Call of Duty games that would further bolster the subscription.
"Would have been a great time to launch a classic Black Ops game per month leading up," said content creator "Swiftor" on X (formerly Twitter), in a comment which echoed a lot of similar comments from CoD fanatics.
It's still not known what 2025 has in store for Call of Duty as the calendar hasn't yet been solidified, but it was assumed that Treyarch might be planning a trip down memory line with a Black Ops 2 remake, of sorts, akin to how MW3 re-did the old MW2 game.
Maybe they're holding off for another year for the legacy games, or maybe the showcase was simply for new titles, and another CoD update could come soon.
