Oh, what a throwback that would have been.
Sledgehammer Games almost gave fans their absolute ultimate dream, scrapping the overcomplicated gunsmith and opting to return to a Pick 10 system designed to do away with some of the frustrating weapon loadout choices.
However, Sledgehammer's proposed Pick 10 system was reportedly scrapped by Infinity Ward and Activision, and fans have been quick to wonder why.
Modern Warfare 3's scrapped Pick 10 system has been leaked
The Modern Warfare 3 Gunsmith has been toned down somewhat by Sledgehammer Games this year, with weapon tuning being removed, but the sheer volume of guns continues to make it quite an overwhelming experience.
But Sledgehammer's Pick 10 system would have streamlined this, as leaker "el_bobberto" has revealed exactly how the feature would have worked.
Taking to Twitter (X), the leaker claimed that the Pick 10 system would have been a mix between the old Black Ops 2 class options and the current model we have today.
The reported system would have had players have ten loadout slots, where primary weapons, the first Perk slot, and Field Upgrades would have cost two points.
Secondaries, two additional perks, and equipment would all have cost one point too, while your maximum of five attachments would have all been free, meaning there was consistency with weapon Blueprints already sold.
Modern Warfare 3 fans unhappy that the rumoured Pick 10 system was scrapped
"Infinity Ward really made them cut this when it's a great evolution on Gunsmith and Pick 10 that brings them both together? lol," said popular figure and renowned leaker "TheGhostofHope".
"A terrible loss at the hands of Pat Kelly's goons," added el_bobberto, aiming his displeasure toward Infinity Ward's shot caller.
Another fan added, "So they could of done this and kept the bundles? Something tells me they wanted to be the ones to take credit for this. Bet money when they release MW4, we will see a system like this in place."
Others claimed that this might still be possible for 2024 when Treyarch takes over, given that it won't have the previous title's guns to contend with and there will be no input from the other studios.
Still, Sledgehammer Games has been applauded for the new Gear system, but it's a shame it wasn't allowed to have full reign over the create-a-class evolution.
