When CD Project Red launched Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, who really thought it'd be sitting where it is today? Following a slew of delays and angry gamers sharpening their pitchforks, there was a feeling that the devs released the sci-fi shooter just to get critics off their backs.

It was a gamble that didn't pay off, with the first draft of Cyberpunk 2077 looking like it was running on a potato on some platforms. Things got worse as Sony pulled it from PlayStation, but ultimately, it was a learning curve. Jump to 2023, and Cyberpunk 2077 is finally looking like the polished chrome it always could've been.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition leaked

It's been a bumper year for Cyberpunk 2077, with the 2.0 update giving us a new-gen overhaul. If that wasn't enough, Idris Elba joined Keanu Reeves for the Phantom Liberty DLC. Sadly, those hopes of multiple Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs have been dashed, as we know CDPR is turning its attention to its sequel.

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 has been polished off, it looks like the developer is planning a Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Europe's PEGI seemingly confirmed its existence, which was then shared on Reddit. The Ultimate Edition is poised for Xbox Series X|S, although it's also expected to launch on PS5 and PC.

CDPR has a history of releasing complete editions of its game, with both The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings getting enhanced editions, while The Witcher 3 gifted us the Wild Hunt - Complete Edition. There's a release date of December 31, 2023, although it could be a placeholder.

Players react to Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition

If the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is coming out before the end of the year, there are sure to be grumbles that it releases so close to Phantom Liberty. It's unclear what'll be included, but it's likely just the new-gen Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty.

When one questioned its name, someone else added, "Complete edition: 60 dollars. Ultimate edition: 70 dollars. It just sounds more expensive." Another said, "It's just the renamed bundle. I paid $56 after tax when it was on sale. My guess they will charge $60 for a limited time then go full price $70."

A third added, "As soon as they make a physical complete edition available, I will play Phantom Liberty. $30 is too much for me personally for something reliant on your internet connection. I'm glad everyone is enjoying it though, sounds like a huge upgrade."

It remains to be seen what the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition contains, but as it looks like all its elements are easy to pick up online, we're hoping for something a little extra. As one gamer rightly concluded, "I will buy it if 2 things are confirmed. 1. It contains the 2.0 build on disc. 2. more physical content is added." Either way, Ultimate Edition sounds pretty final, and we'll likely be buying it anyway.
