It seems like Chad Stahelski has taken it upon himself to usher in a new era of video game movies. The man behind the camera on the John Wick series is gearing up for a pretty massive slate, especially if you ask a video game fan.
He's working hard behind the scenes on bringing Ghost of Tsushima to life on the big screen, and as revealed recently, he's also working on a brand-new adaptation of Rainbow Six, with Michael B. Jordan as the lead. But, it looks like it'll be a while before we get any details about the latter.
Chad Stahelski hints towards "development issues" on Rainbow Six
Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast about his films and his upcoming projects, Stahelski discussed his video game-themed projects - but he's hinted that not all is well behind the scenes.
"I would love, love, love to work with Michael B. Jordan on Rainbow [Six]," he said. Explaining why the holdup, Stahelski confirmed, "We're in a bit of a conundrum with developing that with, you know, the strikes."
It's a shame to find that the movie is being stalled (and slightly disappointing to hear Stahelski down-talk the strikes), but it's best either way that actors and writers get their fair deal first. Still, we're excited to see the Without Remorse sequel come to life, especially with Jordan playing John Clark again.
The Ryanverse has expanded nicely, with Clark being an important figure in the works of Tom Clancy. Also, there's hype that John Krasinski could reprise his role as Jack Ryan from the Amazon series of the same name. In the meantime, it seems Stahelski is passionate enough about Ghost of Tsushima to see it to completion.
Stahelski: "Ghost of Tsushima is a real passion project"
Chad Stahelski wastes no time in bringing up Ghost of Tsushima in relation to this, adding that he feels the project is one very close to him.
"One of my biggest passion projects is Ghost of Tsushima, you know. Getting everyone's heads around [that] this is one of those beautiful video games ever made. […] I'd like to do either one of those as my next [film]."
Stahelski is pretty busy with this duo as well as Highlander, so who knows when they'll come to light - we're just going to have to wait and see.
