The Call of Duty aim assist is arguably the biggest helping hand in gaming, with few other titles having this strength of assistance.
Maybe only rivalled by Apex Legends, CoD's aim assist has been compared to hacks, given that it can also work through walls and other objects. Heading into Modern Warfare 2, pros such as Brandon "Dashy" Otell branded it as a cheat code.
Now, with other games coming into the fold that reduce aim assist and make players truly focus on their gunplay, Warzone mogul James "JGOD" Godoy has called on Activision to revisit their approach.
JGOD claims Activision 'should nerf aim assist'
Having become a setting that specifically helps low-level players by locking on to enemies in close proximity of their aiming position, aim assist is stronger than ever as Activision tailors their games to casuals.
However, it decreased the skill gap significantly, and with Warzone's movement restricting any kind of "get out of jail free" cards, aim assist is making players into human turrets regardless of their skill level.
"[Aim assist] is a little too strong and it doesn't require much skill so [the devs] won’t nerf it but they should," JGOD has now claimed in a recent video, asking the devs to tune it down in a future update and the next Call of Duty release.
The Warzone Aim Assist debate continues to stack up against Activision
Usually, when aim assist is debated, it divides the controller players from those on keyboard and mouse. However, this latest video from JGOD is uniting the community, who all feel like the feature should be turned down.
"This video isn't just for MnKB players to be upset about. If you are a good controller player you should be shocked by this too! Having such AA decreases the skill gap significantly," said one fan in the comment section.
Typically, Treyarch does town down the aim assist, but with Sledgehammer Games producing the 2023 title and having its own controversial run-in with the feature, there might not be much tinkering with it until 2024.
