Finding all the Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks is a top priority and this guide will help you do just that.

Horizon Forbidden West is a massive open-world game, and to get around you will need to fill out your map. To do this, you need to find, climb and override all of the Tallnecks throughout the Forbidden West.

All locations

Cinnabar Sands

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks - Cinnabar Sands

This Tallneck can be found in the northern part of Cinnabar Sands. Near the Tallneck you will find an old satellite dish. The first thing you want to do is climb up as high as you can go. Aloy will point out that you can’t go higher, but the dish can be moved if the power is restored. Go down the ladder opposite where you came up and move around to the right to find a power cell. Grab it and drop down to the ground. Under the dish, there is a place where you can put the power cell and power it up.

The dish will come to life and begin moving, so head back up the ladders to the console you passed earlier. Activate it and the dish will begin moving. Go around to the left this time and climb your way back up to the platform. The dish will be stuck, but shooting the two cable connectors holding it will free it to move.

The dish will now align itself facing straight up, so you can climb the ladder to get on top of it. Climb onto the dish and move to the edge ahead, nearest the Tallneck. When it is close, leap from the dish and glide to land on the Tallneck.

The Stillsands

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks - Stillsands

This Tallneck is south-west of the previous one, in an area called The Stillsands. Overriding this Tallneck involves solving a bit of a mystery. The first thing to do is inspect the machine full of harpoons at the camp. Scan the area to highlight important things in purple, then inspect the dead Oseram to learn that they died fighting machines. Lastly, inspect the antenna and the nearby ballista for Aloy to surmise that the Oseram were trying to bring down the Tallneck to strip it for parts when the machines attacked.

The Tallneck is damaged, and Aloy needs to repair it. Unfortunately, there is no better option than to bring it down anyway. Use the ballista to fire an anchor into a weak point on the Tallneck. When you do, machines will come to defend it so be prepared for that. You need to fire two more anchors into the Tallneck to bring it down.

The second ballista is at the other side of the camp from the first. The third ballista is east of the camp on a small building. Once all three anchors are attached to the Tallneck, it will collapse. Head over to it and override it to fix the Tallneck and complete your objective.

The Stand of the Sentinels

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks - Sentinels

This Tallneck requires quite a bit of climbing to reach the top. Head to the search area on the map, you’ll find the Tallneck walking around and a lot of wooden platforms. The first thing to do is take out any Stalkers in the area. They can shoot you down while you’re climbing so it is best to remove them from the equation.

Once you’re in the clear, head to the centre of the search area and you will find a broken rampway up to the platforms. Run up what’s left of the ramp and use your rope to get on top of the platform. Follow the path to the left, until you reach an edge. You’ll see that there are yellow climbable ledges under the next platform. Glide down to them to climb up to the next section.

When you reach the platform above, go down the broken bridge to your left. Down here you will come to a dead end. This is where you can jump onto the back of the Tallneck. However, the Tallneck is missing the parts you need to climb it. Jump to the platform on the other side of the Tallneck and continue along the path.

Follow this track as you climb higher and higher. When you come back to the central area, shoot down the ladder and climb up. Slide down the rope above to another section, and climb up this platform to be high enough to jump onto the Tallneck. Wait for it to come close, or move to another platform but anywhere here should be high enough to reach it.

Landfall

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks - Landfall

This Tallneck is far out in the West, and becomes available after completing Main Quest 13. Swim out to the search area and you will find the Tallneck sticking out of the water. Swim down and scan it to find the Tallneck is missing two parts. The first part is in a Glinthawk nest, so start swimming north of the Tallneck to find it.

On the sunken building north of the Tallneck, you will see a ladder to the roof of the next building. Shoot it down, then push the box on your roof into the water. From the opposite side, under the roof where the ladder goes, use your rope to pull the box closer. Now you can stand on the box and jump to the ladder. Cross the yellow rope to the next building, then go right to the building with the Glinthawk nest. Go up the stairs and you will find the part you need in a pile of scraps.

From this spot, look north to another building. Jump in the water and swim to this building and you will find the second part among the scraps on the roof. With both parts, head back to the Tallneck and install them to see it come back to life.

We’re not done yet, as we still need to climb the thing. The Tallneck will start walking towards another ruined building. Follow it, then dive down to enter the building underwater. Once inside, take the stairs to the roof. The Tallneck will pass by the southern side of the building, so wait there and jump on it when it passes.

The Shining Wastes

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks - Shining Wastes

This Tallneck is part of the main story and is completed in the 16th Main Quest. Without spoiling much, you will be flying at this point so it is simply a matter of landing on top of the Tallneck to override it.

Saltbite

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks - Saltbite

This Tallneck is much different from the others, as it is not marked on the map. Instead, it is found in the IOTA Cauldron. Repairing this Tallneck is part of completing the Cauldron itself, so head directly north of Scalding Spear, to the most northern part of the map to find it.

The IOTA Cauldron is level 22, so come prepared for that. Work your way through the Cauldron, repair the Tallneck as required and it will be overwritten automatically.

That is everything you need to know to climb and override every Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck. For more on the game, check out Horizon Forbidden West Arena.
