Henry Cavill's Next Gig Looks like A Warhammer 40,000 Series

Even though Henry Cavill is hanging up the cape as Superman, it looks like the star is about to bag a role in a Warhammer 40,000 series.

It's been a sad month for Henry Cavill. Though he probably didn't need our sympathy, the blockbuster superstar has really been through the wringer as of late.

He forfeited the role of Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix Witcher series, with the reason for his departure hanging up in the air. Some claim he had issues with how the show portrayed the books, and others reckon he did it to dedicate himself to his newly-refreshed role of Superman in the DCEU.

Sadly, his return as the Man of Steel didn't quite go to plan, either. As part of the new takeover of the DCEU, Cavill won't be returning to the spandex after all, even though he seems incredibly keen to get back into the iconic red undies. But, he's not staying unemployed for long.

Is Henry Cavill Joining A Warhammer 40,000 Series?

Few projects would be as perfect for Henry Cavill as this. Mere days after the actor revealed the news that his tenure as Superman was closing, it has been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that Cavill is attached to a brand-new series based on his beloved Warhammer 40,000 miniature tabletop game.

Nobody else is attached to the series right now, but the deal is set to close at Amazon Studios, with Vertigo Entertainment involved as executive producers. Cavill will reportedly star and executive produce the series, which would let his geek flag fly.

This is pretty massive for Cavill, who has been incredibly forthcoming about his love of the tabletop game, accidentally becoming something of a spokesperson for it. If the Warhammer 40,000 series moves forward at Amazon, it's proof that you can be a nerd and hot.

What Is Warhammer 40,000 About?

Though it might seem like a tabletop game of this sort would be story-light to make way for the creativity of its players, there's actually a lot going on in Warhammer 40,000 - making it perfect for the length that a multi-season series can offer.

The story takes place 40,000 years in the future, where humanity is locked into an eternal war with aliens, elves and skeletal androids. As the most popular miniature wargame in the world, it's about time Warhammer 40,000 came to the mainstream.

Cavill has previously thrown his hat into the ring for a live-action Mass Effect series in a similar way, but had the caveat that it would have to stick close to the source material. Looking back, this could be a jibe at The Witcher writers.

Warhammer 40,000 could be pretty bold and brave of Amazon, but hell, if they can manage a new Lord of the Rings story, they can manage this.
