In a surprising move, 343 Industries has decided to stop implementing new Seasons of Halo Infinite, instead switching to shorter ‘operations’.
This seems as though it could be the beginning of the end for Halo Infinite, with focus seemingly shifting towards upcoming projects instead.
Halo Infinite will not get any new seasons
In a recent live stream, John Junyszek, Senior Community Manager at 343 Industries, announced that there wouldn’t be a season 6 of Halo Infinite.
He said: “We’re making a shift in how we’re approaching infinite going forward. For [Master Chief Collection] players this is probably going to sound very familiar.
“The gist of it is, we’re no longer referring to ‘seasons’ – we’re shifting away from seasons.”
Instead of Seasons, 343 is instead introducing Operation events.
These will be shorter than Seasons, instead consisting of 20-tier battle passes that run for between four to six weeks.
This means that the game is not being abandoned, but it does really feel like it is being phased out.
343 has seemingly started to look toward other projects
It wouldn’t be entirely surprising for 343 to be winding down Halo Infinite in preparation for new projects which may be just around the corner.
During the live stream, Junyszek said: “For us here at the studio, it’s going to be an exciting year for Halo. We have a dedicated team working on supporting Halo Infinite and continuing to deliver going forward, but also yes, we have additional teams that are accelerating towards the future working on brand new projects… There are a lot of things cooking here.”
This comment has led some fans of 343 to think that they may have something to announce at some point this year.
“I wonder if they're saying "We have new projects in the works that go beyond Halo Infinite" because they plan on doing a big reveal this year,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another asked: “New game when?”
While it may soon be the end for Halo Infinite, it seems as though the future is bright for 343 Industries and it will be exciting to see what these new projects may be.

Playing Halo 2 in third-person makes it better than ever
When you think of Halo you most likely categorise it as a first-person shooter, which makes sense since that is exactly what it is. At least, it was until modders shone a whole new light on Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, allowing players to experience Halo in the third person.
