The next Grand Theft Auto has been a long time coming, and players are bracing themselves as best they can. GTA 6 might borrow from its predecessors, but it's expected to be a fresh and intriguing experience, smashing together the carnage of GTA 5 with the storytelling powers of Red Dead Redemption 2.
It's a lot to ask of Rockstar Games, but to be perfectly honest, it's capable of producing a game of such esteem. But don’t be fooled, Rockstar will charge you for the price of entry, and with new changes that have just come into effect, we're braced for prices to rise before launch.
GTA+ just hiked its price
Sure to be a horrifying revelation to the most dedicated GTA fans, Rockstar Games' GTA-themed subscription service is going up in price, prompting concerns that it might rise even more before the launch of GTA 6.
The GTA+ subscription service, which offers players a bonus GTA$1,000,000 every month for GTA Online and a rolling list of classic Rockstar titles, has just increased its monthly subscription by 33%. Players will now have to pay $8 rather than the previous $6 per month.
GTA+'s price has been static since the service launched alongside the new-gen upgrades of GTA V back in 2022, and it has treated players massively well until now. However, the price hike has put fear in players everywhere because there's a chance it'll jump again in the run-up to GTA 6's launch.
What does the GTA+ price hike mean for GTA 6?
It's hard to tell what a price hike like this will do for GTA 6, especially as the core reason players engage with the service is the extra currency for GTA Online. We don't even know if this will carry over into whatever GTA 6's multiplayer equivalent of the mode is.
The service will hopefully offer players the same currency in GTA 6's online mode so as not to become redundant, but the real problem is the uncertainty it brings. Many are worried the price could soar again or that the base GTA 6 is set for a lofty price tag.
One critic grumbled, "I find it hilarious how Rockstar have gradually improved GTA+ over time, like more money, more in game features (100 car garage), and adding games à la game pass, such that it was getting closer to being worth it. Then they increase the price to make it not worth it again 😅"
Earning more in-game currency is the goal for many anyway, so chances are they'll still play it, especially at the start of a full GTA Online reset. But having to pay more to support GTA for the same experience is unfair, especially as everything we receive is digital in the first place.
