Something wicked this way comes, as Rockstar Games has unveiled its plans for the spooky season. Grand Theft Auto might not be up there with Call of Duty or Fortnite when it comes to Halloween crossovers, but if there's an opportunity for the company to make money, you'll bet it'll take it.
GTA V has plenty of frights to be found, with the likes of serial killers, the Chupacabra, UFOs, and the Ghost of Mount Gordo - that's before we get to all the Slenderman mods. There are new paranormal activities to uncover in GTA V's Halloween 2023 update, but who you gonna call?
GTA Online wants you to bust ghosts for Halloween
While GTA Online stops short of adding an official Ghostbusters collab to Los Santos (we assume the licensing was too expensive), you can see what inspired its latest update. Alongside the return of UFOs, there are possessed animals and Phantom Cars.Â
In the Ghostbusters-inspired event, you'll track those spectral spooks and snap pictures with them to get a livery for the new Albany Brigham - making it look like the franchise's iconic Ecto-1. The Ghosts Exposed event has ghosts spawn in different locations between 8pm and 6am. You need to get all 10 ghosts to get the Ghostbusters-inspired livery.
Fans love this throwback to Ivan Reitman's 1984 classic and the ongoing franchise. One fan cheered, "I didn't expect the ghostbusters hearse/ambulance in gta online to be as faithful to the Ecto-1 as it is I'm super impressed... the childhood within me is so f*****g happy bros."
Others wanted a little more, as someone else added, "I am disappointed that the siren lights don't work on the new Ghostbusters car. It totally defeats the purpose of having them in the first place!" Either way, it'll cost you $1,499,000 of in-game currency to nab GTA's take on the Ghostbusters' vehicle.
What else is included in GTA Online's Halloween update?
Elsewhere, there's the return of a familiar face from beyond the grave. Johnny Klebitz met his maker at the hands of Trevor Philips, and with many loving the biker, it's great that he's back. He's one of the ghosts you'll need to find on your ghost tour, although we'd already heard about his return.Â
Rockstar confirms (via its blog) that GTA Online is also bringing back Slashers, Clowns, and FIB Agents to give you a run for your money. There are Halloween-themed Adversary and Survival modes like Condemned and Alien Survivals, with Triple Rewards on Judgement Day.
There are more surprises tipped for GTA Online's spooky season, so we'll be looking to the skies for the return of UFOs. There are four weeks of "nonstop mischief," meaning you've got until Thursday, November 2, to finish your fright night fun. Either way, remember that "bustin' makes you feel good."Â
