Rockstar has confirmed you can start downloading Grand Theft Auto VI from Tuesday, November 10, nine days before it finally launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Thursday, November 19.
The bad news for anyone with a nearly full console is the size, as Rockstar says you'll need up to 212GB of free space depending on your device, which is an awful lot of old games to delete to make room for Leonida.
What time does GTA 6 pre-load start in the UK?
Pre-loading opens at midnight UK time on November 10 on both consoles, though there's a small difference in how each one handles the timing.
- PS5: midnight local time on November 10 for digital pre-orders
- Xbox Series X|S: midnight GMT on November 10, which is the same moment worldwide (so 7pm Eastern on November 9 in the US)
Earlier retailer listings had pointed to November 12, so this is a couple of days sooner than plenty of players were expecting, as reported by ComicBook and MIXED.
Your backlog might need to make some room
Rockstar's FAQ says GTA 6 needs up to 212GB depending on the device, and Sony's own guidance recommends keeping at least that much free on PS5. That's a big bite out of a standard console's storage, so it's probably smarter to have a clear-out this weekend than to discover you're 40GB short at midnight on the 10th.
What about physical copies of GTA 6?
Boxed copies can go on sale from November 12, but they contain a download code rather than a disc, so you'll still be downloading the whole thing either way. If you're buying a boxed copy, that means you won't be able to start downloading until you've got the code in your hands.
There's still no date for the PC version, which hasn't been announced alongside the console pre-load details.
Well, with nine days between the pre-load and launch, the hardest part might just be not staring at a finished download bar for a week and a half. We'll have more on GTA 6 as November 19 gets closer.
