Though Rockstar Games still isn't messing around when it comes to pumping new content into its money mill of GTA Online, it still feels very much as though we're in a bit of a limbo.
We know a little too much about GTA 6 thanks to the huge leaks that came in 2022, and we're perhaps a little prematurely hyped for a brand new instalment in the series - but even so, players are itching to get their hands on it, theorising about an imminent trailer and the chance to play it by the end of the year.
It's a pretty tall order that Rockstar can't reasonably be held to, but that doesn't mean that players can't get excited about the new era of online GTA gameplay. Unfortunately, there's one thing that players are gearing up to stomach in GTA 6.
GTA players are expecting millions of microtransaction purchases at GTA VI's launch
Players have begun to theorise about the first days of the newly updated GTA Online, and while it's going to be a truly glorious era for fans, they're growing fascinated by the prospect of the microtransaction situation getting even more intense.
Taking to Twitter, YouTuber LegacyKillaHD has posited that the sheer sum of players spending money on microtransactions in order to bolster their in-game bank accounts will be "horrific."
It comes in response to the report that the top two executives at Take-Two Interactive took home over $30 million in combined pay, and this year it is expected to top $72 million thanks to the money players are spending on microtransactions in games under the company's banner.
GTA is by far the most lucrative of these games, and players are worrying that the game will be all but useless when it launches its new instalment without having to fork over for Shark Cards. GTA V isn't the most profitable entertainment product of all time for no reason.
Players respond to GTA microtransaction fears
Fans are truly concerned that GTA is going to step up its already rather predatory game when it comes to microtransactions when GTA 6's online segment comes to launch.
One grumbled, "GTA VI's budget is rumored to be $2B. No f****n way would that be happening if it weren’t for microtransactions. 10+ years of shark cards is craaaazy." Another raged, "GTA 6 may be my last Rockstar game I ever play. If they do online as gross as they've done GTA5 online then they don't deserve my money."
It's reasonable to fear that the already minted company will be getting worse with its minor payments - but this is sadly just the way the game is played. Capitalism, eh? What a swizz.
