"Boi" are we excited for this one? Amazon's long-rumoured God of War season is rolling in like Fimbulwinter, and as it secures a showrunner, Kratos is ready to hack his way back into our lives.
While Sony's God of War series has been flexing its muscles since 2005, the many rumblings of live-action movies starring the likes of Gerard Butler have never come to pass... until now.
What's Going On With Amazon's God Of War Series?
According to Deadline, Amazon's God of War series is officially a go. Earlier this year, we reported that Kratos was making his way to the small screen, but until now, we didn't have word from up high.
God of War will debut on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide - sitting alongside the streaming service's upcoming Fallout show to expand its video game adaptations.
It will be headed up by Wheel of Time's Rafe Judkins as showrunner, with a story written by Mark Fergus (Iron Man) and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men). More than this, we've also got confirmation about when in Kratos' bloody saga God of War will take place.
While the first trilogy took place in Ancient Greece, 2018's God of War and this year's Ragnarok took us to the colder climes of Norse mythology. Deadline's synopsis confirms the series will take place in the latter, with Kratos "exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece."
The site adds: "When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife's final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world."
Who Will Play Kratos In Amazon'd God Of War Series?
The big talking point is "obviously" who will be playing the main man himself. Taking place in the Norse saga means we'll presumably be going for an older Kratos. Names like Jason Momoa and Tom Hardy have been thrown around before, but there seems to be a frontrunner.
Now that we know the God of War series' setting, there are sure to be cries for Christopher Judge to step up from voice actor to play Kratos in live-action.
Following Judge's stirring speech at The Game Awards, it's clear to see why he took over to play the Ghost of Sparta from T.C. Carson. Possibly going against this dream casting, Judge's health was a reason behind Ragnarok's delay - having both hips replaced alongside knee and back surgery.
Even though others say wrestler Triple H is the man for the job, is simply looking like the grizzled "daddy era" Kratos really enough to land him the part? Finally, we're sure Dave Bautista would be a popular choice... if he doesn't play Marcus Fenix in Netflix's Gear of War.
Obviously, we think Nick Offerman should play the axe-swinging saviour of the Nine Realms. Let's be honest, we know you were thinking it too.
