Something wicked this way comes, as Epic Games is going bump in the night once again with Fortnite. The spooky season has rolled around, with the likes of Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Fortnite checking their Halloween candy and carving a terrifying pumpkin.
Fortnitemares is the big one, with the return of the beloved Pumpkin Launcher and Witch Broom, a fight against the vampiric Kado Thorne, and new skins honouring the likes of Halloween and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Still, there are more tricks and treats to be found...if you know where to look.
Fortnite fans can play Five Nights at Freddy's
With the release of Blumhouse's live-action Five Nights at Freddy's movie, it seems like the perfect opportunity for Epic to throw one of its Fortnite collaborations. For whatever reason, this didn't happen. Instead, we (bizarrely) got the seemingly FNaF-inspired Danger Dux set.
For those who don't know, Five Night at Freddy's is a point-and-click survival horror that first arrived on the scene in 2014. The franchise has since grown into a pop culture phenomenon, with Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 coming out in December 2023.
Fortnite's creativity has come on leaps and bounds since the introduction of Creative 2.0, with impressive builds honouring games like Only Up! and Slenderman. You can now try out the FNAF Survival map, which comes courtesy of @CreativeGoblinn and can be found at map code 1864-8667-0230.
Giving us Dead by Daylight vibes, you can either play as Freddy Fazbear or take your chances as one of the hiders. Unfortunately, fanmade Five Nights at Freddy's maps are about as close as we're getting to an official crossover - those rumours never did come true.
Five Nights at Freddy's is smashing box office records
Despite a pretty rocky reception and tumbling Rotten Tomatoes score, there's seemingly no stopping Emma Tammi's movie. Some have called it the worst movie of 2023, but that hasn't stopped the FNaF movie raking in a whopping $80 million in North America and $132 million globally.
To put this into context, Five Nights has already overtaken the entire takings of Blumhouse's Halloween Ends ($104 million) and is destined to pass Haloween Kills ($133 million). Not bad for a movie that has a PG-13 rating and only cost $20 million to make.
Beyond this, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie has the highest-grossing opening weekend for Blumhouse ever, has overtaken Scream VI with the biggest horror opening of 2023, and has the second-largest debut for a video game adaptation (behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie). Do you hear that? It sounds like a sequel to us.
