If you've been down into the sewers recently (we're not sure why you would), you might've noticed something stirring. Those heroes in a half shell are stirring in the bowels of Fortnite, as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are ready to karate chop their way to the surface for the game's next big collaboration.
One of the joys of every new Fortnite season is seeing which collabs are on the way. The latest refresh of Epic Games' battle royale favourite was a big deal, as a new chapter meant a whole new map. We've already made the most of buff Peter Griffin, and now, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are ready to snatch our V-Bucks.
Fortnite's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collab looks massive
Although Fortnite's TMNT collab isn't live yet, the leaks are everywhere. February 6's update v28.20 leads into the event's release on February 9, boasting everything from new skins to quests, as well as the potential of new vehicles, mythical weapons, and a mini-pass.
The leaks point to the return of hoverboards (to replicate the TMNT's love of skateboarding), turtle-themed Supply Drops, and mythic weapons that relate to each of the quartet's signature weapons. Including dash and attack abilities, it looks like we're getting the likes of Raphael's twin sais.
Skins for Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo are all pretty standard, while the Splinter skin is much better. We'll also be heading straight for that Krang backbling. The Shredder skin and its variant look are the winner here, although they could come with a drawback.
You'll know we've previously had mini-passes for the likes of Star Wars' Darth Maul skin, but with the galaxy far, far away, arguably having much more of a pull, it seems you aren't convinced about splashing out another 1,000 V-Bucks just to get Shredder - no matter how cool he is.
Fortnite fans won't be paying for Super Shredder
It seems that while the base Shredder skin will be a reward for buying the mini-pass and could appear in the general item shop, the purple "Super Shredder" skin will be the final level of the pass. As you can imagine, locking this skin behind a paywall hasn't gone down well.
When iFireMonkey broke the news, one angry player wrote, "We don't care cuz we won’t be buying 👎" Another added, "Damn, guess ill be ignoring this one too," and a third said, "Remember when they used to gift skins?" There were also complaints that Fortnite Crew subscribers should get mini-passes for free.
Someone else concluded, "It's dissapointing I need to pay so many V-Bucks for the cool skin of Super Shredder, just makes me lose the fun to play Fortnite because that cool skin is behind a paywall of V-Bucks and I need to complete the battlepass."
We'll admit that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collab looks like it's pushing the boat out in terms of new mechanics and map changes, but locking the coolest skin behind a paywall (no matter how predictable it was) stinks worse than the TMNT's hideout.
