The popularity of the Five Nights At Freddy's franchise made it an almost sure-shot when it came to the box office returns of its movie adaptation - but few imagined that it would make the splash that it did.

Though critics were in two minds about the film, it quickly became Blumhouse's best box office return ever, and fans have been begging for a sequel ever since. And frankly, they'd be silly not to get involved.

But, alas, we've had no confirmation that it's happening. Until now.

Josh Hutcherson: Blumhouse "want to get going as soon as possible" on FNAF 2

In a new conversation with Variety, Josh Hutcherson has confirmed that a second Five Nights At Freddy's movie is in the works.

Hutcherson, who plays security guard Mike Schmidt in the film, has stated in a chat with the publication that a new movie to follow the box office smash Five Nights At Freddy's is in development, and the film's team is working hard on a story.

I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible," he says. “Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal."

He goes on to add that he's incredibly excited to get back to work on a new FNAF story - "But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.

Producers at Blumhouse are yet to comment.

Jennifer Lawrence texted to congratulate Josh Hutcherson for FNAF

Hutcherson goes on to reveal that his Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence was excited to see the Five Nights At Freddy's movie perform so well, reaching the top of the box office just as her recent rom-com, No Hard Feelings, was performing similarly on Netflix.

Jen texted me when Freddy’s came out," he says. “She was like, ‘My movie’s #1 on Netflix, and your’s is #1 at the box office! Let’s go!’ I was like, ‘I love you!'

It's nice to see that Lawrence was as excited as we are the Five Nights At Freddy's movie was winning big in the cinema. Now, as it turns out, we might get to see it dominate the box office all over again.

It's been a great year for video game adaptations, between FNAF, the Super Mario Bros. movie, and The Last of Us TV show. Here's hoping the trend continues.
