Ding, ding, seconds out. As NetherRealm Studios prepares to get in the ring for Mortal Kombat 12, the first details about the game's presumably stacked guest roster makes for some interesting reading. The Injustice games have already united these worlds, and once again, MK is returning the favour.
While the whole point of Mortal Kombat is finishing him/her with fan-favourites like Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Johnny Cage, we've been enjoying pop culture crossovers since Mortal Kombat 9 added Kratos and Freddy Krueger in the 2011 reboot. So, who's on the Mortal Kombat 12 guest character lineup?
Is Peacemaker in Mortal Kombat 12?
A cryptic tweet from insider Jez Corden suggests that John Cena's Peacemaker will be in Mortal Kombat 12. When one fan said it's baffling that the chrome-helmeted antihero is the coolest thing to come from the ashes of the DC Extended Universe, Corden gave the wink to him appearing in MK12.
Someone else said they'd prefer to see Homelander from The Boys, and giving us all our Christmases at once, Corden shared a meme saying, "Why not both?" The news comes after Corden teased that Mortal Kombat 12 will be revealed at a PlayStation showcase that's heavily rumoured for later this month.
Of course, we'll take this with a large pinch of salt, especially considering Corden doesn't actually mention Mortal Kombat at all. Given that a third Injustice game has been doing the rounds for longer than we care to remember, the DC fighter is a more likely inclusion.
Still, all signs point to Mortal Kombat 12, especially following that recent teaser that left us baffled but looking ahead to the next game. As for Peacemaker, Cena has perfectly embodied the douchey Captain America and is one of the few characters making the leap into James Gunn's rebranded DC Universe.
Mortal Kombat 12 will be missing some fan-favourites
Unfortunately, there are at least two popular pop culture icons who (probably) won't be appearing in the Mortal Kombat 12 guest character team. Despite being heavily teased as part of MK11's guest character list, Evil Dead's Ash Williams will be sitting this one out.
This comes after actor Bruce Campbell confirmed he wouldn't let the character be loaned out from Evil Dead: The Game, saying that he'd want characters to cameo in Ash's world - similarly to Dead by Daylight's many crossovers.
Another horror legend is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Boon previously confirmed he wanted the likeness of Sarah Michelle Gellar's blonde bombshell to appear, but it's never come to pass. We've never had a female guest character, and while we imagine that could change with MK12, Buffy isn't exactly a hot IP right now.
Following Joker in MK11, Peacemaker co-star Harley Quinn would be another popular choice for the next game, but we'll have to wait and see. Still, we're excited that Peacemaker and Eagly really could be spreading their wings in Boon's next chapter of the brutal brawler.
