The Boys are back in town, as gamers are championing one of the leads of Amazon's hit live-action series for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. While we don't know much about the next chapter, we imagine it'll follow in the footsteps of nabbing Hollywood talent like Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba.
Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic series of the same name, The Boys made its bloody debut in 2019. The spandex-clad series has become a record-breaking success, while stars like Karl Urban, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty have been praised as perfect castings. But, would anyone swap the Seven for Night City?
Cyberpunk fans want The Boys star for the sequel
Over on Reddit, Cyberpunk 2077 fans have thrown their weight behind The Boys' Karl Urban joining the sequel. Known for playing the foul-mouthed Billy Butcher, Urban's bearded brute is known for kicking ass and dropping c-bombs.
More than just fan casting Urban because he's a man of the moment, the OP even has a part picked out for him. Urban is pitched as the character of Morgan Blackhand - a fan-favourite of the Cyberpunk world. Known as a cigar-chewing military veteran, Blackhand is always out for himself and sounds like a Cyberpunk version of Billy Butcher.
While we don't know the story of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel (codenamed Orion), we know Morgan Blackhand appears in this world. The 2020 game didn't feature Blackhand, but a well-hidden news report mentions a shootout with the sole survivor being "a portly man with a black cyberarm."
Others loved the idea of Urban lending his likeness to Blackhabnd in Cyberpunk Orion, so we hope CDPR is taking note. Someone else cheered, "This would go so hard," and another added, "Sure he would be a good fit. Even if Morgan blackhand isn't in Orion, there are plenty of characters that Karl would be a good fit for."
A third concluded, "I feel like the energy he has in Dredd could really deliver as Morgan Blackhand just a cold hard bad ass rolling around wrecking up baddies. Karl Urban is one of the best actors going right now. Anyway I'm gonna go put Dredd on while I kick it, that movie f*****g slaps."
What do we know about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel?
Announced in October 2022 "Project Orion" will be developed by CD Projekt North America and has already seen some staff relocate. Now that the Phantom Liberty DLC has wrapped, work is officially underway on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
The next game will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 thanks to a partnership between CDPR and Epic Games. Speaking to PC Gamer, CDPR Narrative Director Igor Sarzynski said the team wants a "similar evolution here," comparing Cyberpunk to the changes between chapters of The Witcher.
Sarzynski is the one who confirmed Orion is now in pre-production, which sadly means the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel's launch is still a long way off. Thankfully, with Cyberpunk 2077 finally living up to the promise of what it could be, there's plenty to go back to and enjoy.
