Alrite' me old China plate, we've had the Fallout: London team on the dog and bone, and there's some bad news. If you haven't heard of Fallout: London, this much-hyped fan project is giving us a Fallout franchise first by taking us to the British Isles for a game about the size of Bethesda's Fallout 4.
More than just reskinning some old Fallout title, Fallout: London is a brand-new adventure akin to Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas. Considering Fallout 5 is locked up in its vault for the foreseeable future, Fallout: London's release is a massive deal - well, that's if we ever get to play it.
Why was Fallout: London delayed?
In a year that already boasts The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Starfield, Fallout: London was going up against some juggernauts. Although the team still plans on making that elusive 2023 release window, it's being pushed so as not to clash with Starfield.
In a new update video, Project Lead Prilladog explained the delay: "We're not providing a specific date, but I can openly say that it will be in the fourth quarter of the year. You might be wondering 'why so late?' Well, initially we had hoped for it to be in the third quarter.
"However, a certain space game got delayed, and is now scheduled to come out around the same time that we had planned. So, as a result, we're making our release for the last quarter." Given that Fallout overlords Bethesda are releasing Starfield, it makes sense that Fallout: London doesn't want to be lost in space to its rival.
"This not only gives you all more time to play Starfield," continued Prilladog, "But also allows us more time for playtesting and bug fixing, so it's a win-win situation, right? We just appreciate your patience. So, expect us around then [Q4]." It remains to be seen if Fallout: London still releases in 2023, but here's hoping.
What do we know about Fallout: London?
Fallout: London has been in the works since 2019, with its main map boasting a similar size to the main Fallout 4. There will also be five smaller hubs that combine to be about the same size as the Far Harbour DLC. This is just the tip of the iceberg regarding what's on the way.
As with any good Fallout game, there will be various factions, like the Minutemen-inspired Tommies and the mobster-like Isle of Dogs Syndicate. It's not just fans impressed with Fallout: London, with Bethesda approving and even hiring some of the team to work on its own games.
If you weren't already sold, how about weaponised elephants, radioactive badgers, and even some Doctor Who stars? Although Fallout: London is set between the first two games, things will be slightly different because the Evolutionary Virus hasn't reached these shores. Sorry though, the team has removed the zombified Queen Elizabeth II.
