You'd think Fallout 76 would have packed it up by now.

With the game's catastrophic launch, plagued by bugs, glitches, low player numbers, seriously lacking interest and a game design that simply didn't feel very Fallout, it almost instantly entered the 'infamous' bracket of the video game cultural consciousness.

The game's launch was rough, but ever since, Bethesda has been trying to make amends with updates, DLC, and constant maintenance. We didn't really know how long this would last - but it looks like the game might be around for some time yet.

Fallout 76 Has A 'Five-Year Roadmap'

Four years on from the release of Fallout 76, it looks like we've got years of more content to look forward to.

A lot of fans may have expected the recent UFO events to be it for some time in the game, but according to the game's design director in an interview with AusGamers, there's much more coming over the nuke-soaked horizon.

"We have long term plans, and things get a little fuzzier the further we go out because we adjust and adapt as things show up and we see what players want and what they are doing," he says. "But, a lot of my time right now is spent on planning that three and five-year roadmap."

What Does This Roadmap Mean For Fallout 76?

At the very least, this statement suggests that Bethesda has plans to keep Fallout 76 afloat for some time. Despite the game's shortcomings, it looks like they're willing to see it through, at least for the next three years.

The 'roadmap' has a vague enough timeframe to be able to call it at any point in this time, and frankly, it'd probably be in Bethesda's best interests to pack it up eventually - but it's nice to see that they're willing to keep the game going. They've started, so they'll finish.

Though Fallout 76 has struggled, it's clever that the developers behind the game remain passionate about the possibilities of the game, and it's good to see that despite its difficulties, it's still on the go. For now.
