Despite being one of the financial giants of the gaming industry, Epic Games has just swept through a huge chunk of its staff.
In an immensely bleak turn, Epic Games recently announced it would be letting go of around 830 employees in a sweep that will take out 16% of the company.
Fairly enough, fans are worried for the future of the company and its subsidiaries. Alongside Fortnite, this includes the talented teams at Mediatonic, the developers of Fall Guys. Now, Epic Games has come forward to cut through the speculation.
The gaming industry argues over Mediatonic
Reports have been coming out that indicate the complete collapse of Mediatonic, but there are others in the industry that have been putting these claims on blast.
Dexerto claimed online that the entire team had been laid off, accruing 7.8 million views at the time of recording - but almost immediately, a context box appeared under the tweet that cleared up that this wasn't true.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier added that though the team was hit hard by the layoffs, the company is still intact.
As Dexerto responded to the tweet from Schreier by including it in the thread of the not-yet-deleted tweet, the journo clapped back by saying, "By 'now claims' I think you mean to say 'had to clear up the misinformation we spread to hundreds of thousands of people.'" Yikes.
Epic Games clears up rumours about the collapse of Mediatonic
Speaking with Eurogamer, an Epic Games spokesperson has tidied up rumours, suggesting that "Mediatonic's work on Fall Guys continues to be a company priority." It suggests that those bouncing beans will continue under their own steam, although there's sure to be some fallout from the Epic layoffs.
Schreier said that Mediatonic "was hit very hard" by the layoffs, but Epic suggests the opposite. Even in the wake of some sad layoffs and industry dramatics, it's good to know that the Mediatonic team will keep up its good work on Fall Guys - even if we're all feeling a little bit heated.
