Elden Ring’s Spiritcaller Snails could be its most dangerous enemy

As Elden Ring players get ready for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, fans are going back to the base game and realising that the seemingly easy Spiritcaller Snails could be one of its most dangerous enemies.

Like any FromSoftware game, Elden Ring was packed with a murderous mob of horrifying creatures. The 2022 Soulslike is remembered for iconic foes like Starscourge Radahn and Malenia and for trying (and failing) for hours to best the Tree Sentinel. However, there's a new enemy rising up the ranks.

We're on the cusp of the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and with it, players are flocking back to Elden Ring. To get into Shadow of the Erdtree, you need to have beaten Mohg, Lord of Blood, and as fans try to hit that milestone, it seems they're discovering new details they hadn't before.

Spiritcaller Snails are more dangerous than we thought

As a relatively minor enemy in the core game, Spiritcaller Snails are largely remembered for their ability to summon other enemies. With limited offensive abilities, they tend to rely on turning invisible and the spirits they summon. Now, players have discovered a deadly attack many didn't know existed.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), someone shared a video of a Spiritcaller Snail using an unexpected grab attack. The clip shows the player unable to move from the Spiritcaller Snail's grasp, watching the Tarnished's health drain away until they die.

Others responded to the clip and were surprised that they'd apparently never seen the attack before. One shocked fan wrote, "500 hours in Elden Ring and I have NEVER seen this lmao," while another added, "Someone worked 2 or 3 hours to make an animation none of us would ever see."

Most seemingly had no idea that Spiritcaller Snails could be this dangerous, with a third saying, "First time seeing both this room and this attack and I’m at 228 hours…this is why this game is goated." It's hardly new, though, as a YouTube video from two years ago shows off the snail attack.

FromSoftware has already told us there will be 10 new bosses as we head into the Land of Shadow, so it stands to reason there will be even more new enemy types than that in Shadow of the Erdtree. Here's hoping there are no fiery versions of the Spiritcaller Snails.
