The Elden Ring Rennala boss fight, can be easy or difficult, depending on how lucky you get during the second phase of her boss fight. The first phase of the fourth main Elden Ring boss, however, should be a complete cakewalk for almost all players. One thing to note: save your summons for the second phase of the fight. Here's what you need to know about how to beat the Elden Ring Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon boss fight.

Elden Ring Rennala Boss Fight: First Phase

Elden Ring Rennala boss fight: First phase

To start off, she’s surrounded by an orange barrier high up, so she can’t be damaged immediately. In order to break her barrier, you have to kill her blue-robed followers, but not just any of them. There’s one in particular around the room who’s also covered in an orange aura. That’s the one you have to find and attack. You only have to hit her once to destroy the barrier, but each one is so weak anyway you may as well hit them a second time to finish them off.

Be careful of the other followers who will attack you, but they’re rather slow-moving so you can avoid their attacks most of the time. While Rennala herself rarely attacks during the first phase of the fight, she can unleash a blast that can do quite a bit of damage, indicated when she raises some of her followers into the air with her. Keep a safe distance between you and her when this happens and you should be fine, ideally with a bookcase or two to block the attack while you search for the proper follower to kill.

After killing three of the orange followers, Rennala’s barrier will break and she’ll fall to the ground, defenseless. This is your time to unleash your fury upon her and inflict as much damage as possible. Be on the lookout for when she starts glowing, because that’s when she’s going to recover her barrier, and the subsequent explosion will damage. So don’t get too greedy and step away once you see her glowing. You’ll need as many healing potions as you can keep during the second phase of the fight.

Repeat the cycle of killing three of the correct followers to break her barrier again. Keep this up until she’s out of HP.

After defeating her once, a cutscene will trigger and she’ll transform, making her much more mobile this time around. She utilizes a variety of long-range magic attacks, primarily shooting magic arrows that hone in on you. These are very similar to The Red Wolf’s arrows, so just run to the side to avoid them all. If you’re close up, sometimes Renalla will shoot a little magic string…thing. It comes out rather quickly and if you get hit by it, it’s not the end of the world as it doesn’t do as much damage as her other attack.

The trick here is to constantly close the gap between you two. Get up close and don’t give her a chance to attack. Rennala has low poise, which means that constant hits on her will interrupt her attacks. This is also the perfect time to summon your allies, either the Lone Wolves or the Militiamen.

Get up to her face to make sure that your summons appears in close proximity to her. With your own attacks, combined with your summons’ attacks, she shouldn’t have many opportunities to fight back as she’ll constantly flinch. However, once her HP gets low, the fight can become harder.

At this point, she will summon ghostly allies of her own to aid her. She has three to pick from: a group of wolves, a single soldier, or a big dragon. The advice here is to not engage with the summons at all. They will disappear on their own after a few seconds. Just run around the area while avoiding both theirs and Rennala’s attacks.

With that said, the dragon is particularly dangerous. It can fly towards you and spit a stream of fire, or wind up an attack to dive bomb you. Try your best to time your dodge roll and avoid those attacks. There seems to be no limit in how many times she can summon, so it’s imperative that you also close the gap between her and yourself quickly so that you can finish her off.

After defeating Rennala, she suddenly turns into an ally… couldn't have just been friendly from the get-go, could she. In addition to a new Site of Grace popping up, you can also speak to her. Rennala can change your look, as well as respec your stat points with the “Rebirth” option.
