Elden Ring Player Trolls Endgame Boss With Starting Item

As Elden Ring players finally start to finish FromSoftware's epic game, someone has managed to troll one of its final bosses with a starting item.

The legacy of FromSoftware games comes with a pretty big caveat - you're going to die, a lot. This is more evident than ever in Elden Ring, which is not only the developer's biggest game to date, but easily its hardest. Some bosses even make Bloodborne's Father Gascoigne look like the Tree Sentinel.

As we continue to plough tens of hours into Elden Ring, most of us are heading into the endgame or have even managed to roll the final credits. It's been a long slog from the first time we stepped out into the Stranded Graveyard, however, some runners are trying to finish the game like they're still infants to the Lands Between.

Can You Beat Elden Ring As A Starter Character?

When picking your keepsake items, the Bewitching Branch might not appear high on the list. Yes, it has the ability to temporarily turn enemies into allies that can help you out of a tight jam, but on the whole, it's one of the weaker keepsakes... or is it? Challenger runner Ongbal has proved the Bewitching Branch's worth later in the game.

When taking on Commander Niall in Castle Sol, you'll be glad you picked the Bewitching Branch. By the time you reach the Mountaintops of the Giants area, you should be pretty used to all that the Lands Between has to throw at you. Still, Niall is much more than your classic FromSoft boss. Although he's similar to all the other armoured beefcakes we've seen swinging a sword in previous games from the developer, he also summons two ghost knights to fight alongside him.

Niall's spectral companions are tough enough on their own, and as you try to dodge their speedy moves, he can easily trigger the "You Died" screen with a simple swish of his sowrd. It turns out that the ghost knights can be just as punishing on Niall if you can turn them against him. Enter the Bewitching Branch. Ongbla has been doing the gruelling challenge where you try to beat Elden Ring's bosses without levelling up, and now, have shown off their handy hack for beating Niall.

Is The Bewitching Branch Secretly OP?

Part of what makes Commander Niall so hard is the fact his battle takes place in such a cramped area. That would be hard enough for even the most skilled Tarnished, but when you add his two knights into the mix, things get pretty sweaty. The video proved that Niall's former accomplices can pack a punch, with the two knights taking off half of his health on their own.

If this wasn't enough, turning Niall's knights frees up some space on your side. Making things even easier, this is the perfect time to dish out the Mimic Tear and spawn a second version of yourself onto the battlefield. Suddenly, four against one sounds a little more in your favour. Beating Niall grants you access to the Haligtree Medallion, which then allows you to enter key areas for optional questlines. Previously, Niall was thought of as one of the fantasy title's hardest boss battles, but now, it's a bit like dishing out a one-hit to a turtle.
