Diablo is well and truly back on top. The many successes of Diablo 4 have perched the action RPG back on its mountaintop, and as its first official season scowls at us from afar, we know there are more vicious beasts to take down in the game's future.

The series has been treated very well recently, and fans even moreso, with Diablo 4 giving players the high-end experience they've always wanted. Elsewhere, the divisive Diablo Immortal has been keeping them busy in the moments in between.

Bringing the latter back into relevance, Diablo Immortal is introducing the franchise's first new class in nine years. One thing's for sure, this one doesn't suck.

Diablo Immortal introduces new class

Diablo Immortal's Blood Knight.

For the first time in a very long time, the Diablo series has introduced a brand-new class, that will be joining Diablo Immortal. The new class is called the Blood Knight, which we're sure you'll agree sounds very metal.

"This vanquisher of vampires feeds on enemies' life, entraps them in deadly shadows summoned with cursed strength, and relies on their trusty polearm to maintain distance from danger," says the new description on the Blizzard website.

"And if all else fails, they may just succumb to the unholy abomination within themselves that's vying for control of their humanity." The character will be coming to the game on July 13, with no word yet on if they'll make it to the core game of Diablo 4 just yet.

What are the Blood Knights?

In the world of the game, the Blood Knights are people who vampires have bitten, but rather than turning into thralls, have postponed their transformation with artefacts that allow them to hold onto their humanity.

Their role in the Diablo world is to convince the bitten to join the Blood Knights, or die by their hand. Their abilities are Vampire-adjacent, so you'll be able to put them to use in a scrap - but you'll have to wait an indeterminate amount of time before they come to the mainline titles.

After nine years of playing as Necromancers and Barbarians, it's good that we're getting some fresh blood in the demonic dungeon crawlers. The fact the Blood Knights have appeared at all is a treat in itself.
