With all of the drama surrounding Xbox and its Game Pass, we're also shocked that Diablo is contributing to the mayhem. It seems that Microsoft has more than enough on its plate with its ongoing purchase of Activision Blizzard that looks like it's about to sail though.
Despite that, rumours of game-of-the-moment Diablo 4 coming to Game Pass have been swirling since before its release. Sadly, it looks like our hopes of the dungeon crawler finding a new home have been canned for good this time.
Diablo 4 is confirmed to not be coming to Game Pass
Though whispers of Diablo 4's arrival on Game Pass have been on the go for some time, a new one has kicked up steam in recent days. Following the ABK deal news, the Diablo 4 Game Pass rumours has been shot down.
The rumour came from a Brazilian gift card retailer called PICPay, who listed that Diablo 4 was "available now" on Xbox Game Pass. The ad has since been removed, and now it comes packed with support from Blizzard President, Mike Ybarra.
Responding to a now-deleted tweet speculating on the rumour, Ybarra says succinctly, "This is not happening." Well, that clears that up. It's much the same as Call of Duty, and although it's possible the game could land on there some day, that isn't anytime soon.
Will Diablo IV ever come to Game Pass?
With Microsoft's buyout of Activision Blizzard in the works and its benefits for Xbox users still in the pipeline, it's hard to say whether Diablo 4 will appear on the service or not. It'd be a surprise if we got an outright refusal for it ever to land on Game Pass, but will anyone care when it does?
When someone questioned why Ybarra deleted the tweet, he responded saying, "We can't predict the future. That 'leak' was bogus, and not happening." It's not a not, but it's definitely not a yes...yet.
There's still money to be made with Diablo 4, and although Microsoft is known for its day-one releases on Game Pass, putting the title on there soon might pull from that. Give it a moment because Diablo 4 could appear soon on Game Pass. If Ybarra has anything to do with it, we won't be exploring Sanctuary just yet.
