Diablo 4 players slam 'Skittles' portals that cost $30

Diablo 4 Players are roasting the newest addition to the game's shop, mocking 'Skittles' portals for being next to useless and incredibly expensive.

Despite a strong start, Diablo 4 fans are feeling as though they're not getting what they'd hoped for. The June 2023 launch of Blizzard's game was immense, pushing the franchise to new heights with a marketing campaign to rival the giants and its story leading to the lair of Lillith being a huge step up for the series.

For many, this is where the excitement ended. Players have been underwhelmed by the seasonal content, and as microtransactions are displayed as the most prominent aspect of Diablo 4, you've been checking out for good. Now, one cosmetic upgrade has players up in arms all over again.

Players hate the 'Skittles' portals in Diablo 4

Diablo fans have been pointing out that it seems as though Blizzard is desperate for players to pay attention to the microtransactions that Diablo 4 offers. This play has backfired, as they're pointing out how the latest addition to the shop is perhaps the most absurd of the bunch.

The Dark Pathways are simple recolours of the portal that players use in order to fast travel to different towns in the game, and they're perhaps the most simplistic addition to the game's shop we've seen yet. The most shocking thing is that the Dark Pathways pack, featuring the five new portal colours and 1000 Platinum, costs a hefty $30.

Fans have reacted with total horror to the bundle, with some refusing to see the extra Platinum as any kind of free investment. One grumbled, "It probably took just as much effort to make the Skittles portals as it did to make season 3," while another added, "And yet people still pay for it. STOP BUYING THIS CRAP!"

A third concluded, "IMO these should be in-game rewards for completing a difficult challenge on each class. Like beat Lilith or reaching level 100 on hardcore with each class." It's all pretty standard accusations of being a cash-grab, but it doesn't end there.

Diablo 4's Skittle portals are class-locked

As though it couldn't get worse, each portal colour is class-locked, meaning that those of you who play only one class at a time can use only portal colour one at a time. The real kicker is that it might not even be the colour that they actually want to use.

It's a joke for many dedicated Diablo fans, not only to charge them so much but also to restrict players from choosing their favourite colour from the bunch they'd paid for. It looks like Diablo's microtransaction problem isn't any closer to getting any better.
