Destiny 2 players have gone from being a little worried about Into The Light, a mini-expansion of sorts intended to bridge the gap to the delayed Final Shape release in June, to being pretty pleased with it.
While Onslaught mode has grabbed headlines and the Pantheon "boss rush" arrived this week at reset, PvP fans have had to wait - but they're about to be rewarded for their patience.
Destiny 2 gets 3 new PvP maps next week
While we knew Destiny 2 was getting fresh maps for the PvP Crucible mode, Bungie's latest blog post has given us a fresh look at them via community cartographer Relikt.
Eventide Labs is set on Europa, where the Beyond Light campaign took place. Expect icy caves blending with an abandoned research outpost, with curved tunnels and a raised central area.
Next up, Cirrus Plaza is set on Neomuna and takes the form of a shopping mall. Expect it to be a fun Strand playground. It's also, interestingly, a rare instance of an almost entirely symmetrical map - something Destiny 2 doesn't have an awful lot of.
Finally, Dissonance is set on a terraformed Pyramid Ship, not unlike the Root of Nightmares Raid where the Traveler's light has left colourful tendrils throughout the area. Gameplay-wise, it looks closer to a three-lane setup.
All three maps will be found in a new 3v3 playlist called "New Territory", so you can get some practice in ahead of the eventual arrival of Trials of Osiris on the fresh additions. Playing in the playlist will net you a fresh emblem, called Slaycation, at the end of the season.
It's not all maps, either. Bungie's blog also receives updates from the PvP Strike team, set up to help revitalise an area of the game that many players had felt was underserved.
Chief among them is a new "1-1-1" system where players will respawn with "one kill worth of Special ammo for their chosen weapon", while Primary weapon kills will drop the same.
"What this means is that any of your final blows with a Primary weapon will drop an ammo brick that only you can pick up, regardless of whether the opponent you defeated had Special ammo on them," the post explains.
Crates will also only provide a single kill's worth of ammo, too.
