Days Gone was in the news recently for an unlikely reason, as the game's creative director John Garvin blamed "woke reviewers" for its poor critical reception.

However, the game developer, Bend Studio, has now issued a response. The gaming giant has distanced itself from Garvin's comments.

What Has Bend Studio Said About The Days Gone Director

Last week, the former creative director of Bend Studio took to Twitter and accused "woke reviewers" of not being "bothered to play the actual game." It came in response to a question of why the game didn't receive critical acclaim from reviewers.

Predictably, there was a lot of backlash from games media, causing Garvin to private their Twitter account, and now Bend Studio has published a statement on the controversy.

"We are aware of the comments made by our previous creative director on Days Gone regarding his personal view on the critical reception of our intellectual property" the statement begins.

"Bend Studio does not share his sentiment, not does it reflect the views of our team. Our Studio is immensely proud of the world we accomplished on Days Gone and are thankful to every developer who poured their heart and soul into it."

Has The Critical Reception Affected The Future Of Days Gone?

Has The Critical Reception Affected The Future Of Days Gone?

Despite Garvin's personal statements on why he thinks the game failed - and his bitterness at the less-than-stellar reviews - Days Gone still did very well commercially.

Days Gone sold roughly the same amount of copies as Ghost of Tsushima, which is considered a big success and is even set to get a live-action adaption by PlayStation Productions.

The statement from Bend Studios even ends with a tinge of hope for what lies ahead, stating, "we are incredibly jumbled by the support of the Days Gone community and we will continue to share your enthusiasm for our world and character as we look toward the future."

This doesn't outright confirm the existence of another game in the Days Gone universe, and Bend Studio have previously revealed they are working on a new IP for the time being, but more surprising sequels have happened in the past.
