Suzi Hunter Is Boycotting Silent Hill 2 Remake

Where would the video game industry be without remakes? From Demon's Souls to Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy VII to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, developers thrive on dusting off some old classics and slapping on a new price tag to keep dollars flowing in.

Gamers also loving that nostalgic high of revisiting an old favourite but finding it modernised to today's standards. Unfortunately, not everyone is a fan of remakes (or at least certain remakes), saying that we've run out of ideas. It's much the same as movies in Hollywood, but being the gaming community, you can bet it's more charged.

Suzi Hunter mocked over Silent Hill 2 Remake boycott

Voice actor Suzi Hunter is known for her work on Cyberpunk 2077 and Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat, but she clearly isn't a fan of the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Posting on X about how she's "disillusioned with remakes," Hunter told her followers not to expect coverage from her because she won't be playing Konami's much-anticipated remake.

In the thread, Hunter added, "I’m extremely disillusioned with remakes. I’m tired of these companies not having any faith in their creatives to come up with fresh stories and ideas. I’m sick of the mindset of “Well if the remake does well MAYBE we’ll get new titles!” Respectfully, you can hold that, I won’t."

There's definitely a sense that publishers use remakes to test the water on whether an IP is still popular, and with the last Silent Hill game being the disappointing Downpour in 2012, it's been a long time since we've visited that tormented town. Many hold Silent Hill 2 as the 'best' in the series, so you can understand why they're so protective of it.

Still, Hunter's response has led to a viral outburst on social media, with many mocking her. A bit like when someone announces their departure on the group chat, Hunter has been ridiculed for her views. Others have pointed out how her channels show that she's a big fan of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, asking what her beef with Silent Hill is.

One critic responded, "Suzi, I love the original Silent Hill 2, it’s one of my favorite games ever. The original game will always be there, remakes and remasters are great for people that want to get into the franchise but don’t want to spend more than retail price to play the game."

Another added, "If you don't want to review Silent Hill 2 that's fine. But to say Konami has no faith in fresh stories when one of the five games in their current SH lineup is a remake is just strange justification on your part." A third concluded, "If you don't wanna play Silent Hill 2 Remake, it's fine, but don't turn it into this self-righteous act about how you want to see new games with new ideas."

Hunter also caused a stir by suggesting people go and play Signalis and Alan Wake, which others were quick to point out were seemingly inspired by Konami's horror series. She's currently putting out fires all over the place, and as the memes keep flowing in, we'd like to remind those on the internet that everyone is entitled to their opinion on the current state of gaming.
