Crash Bandicoot could be preparing to spin back into action sooner rather than later. That orange blur has been a staple of the console scene since 1996, and while we used to associate Crash Bandicoot with PlayStation, he's now branched out into the gaming mainstream.
For those of a certain age, you'll remember the glory days of battling through the first trilogy of Crash games, besting Dr. Neo Cortex, and riding Pura on the Great Wall of China. There was a series of increasingly average sequels and a hiatus, however, the remastered N. Sane Trilogy in 2017 brought him back in a big way.
What's Going On With Crash Bandicoot?
After the success of Vicarious Visions' N. Sane Trilogy, Toys for Bob took the reins and went full 2018 Halloween by ignoring the lacklustre sequels and picking up with a sequel to 1998's lauded Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
Crash 4: It's About Time topped sales charts and was nominated for Best Family Game at the Game Awards, so we were always expecting a sequel.
As spotted by VGC, Toys for Bob is hiring a Senior Concept Artist. It might not sound like much, especially considering the TfB team was controversially moved over to work on Call of Duty: Warzone. What makes this interesting is that other jobs like Lighting Artist specifically mention Call of Duty in the header.
The Senior Concept Artist has Toys for Bob next to the job title, suggesting it's not for something related to CoD. If you still aren't sold on this being Crash news, remember the madcap marsupial is celebrating his 25th anniversary this year.
When Will We Know More About Crash Bandicoot?
Despite reports of layoffs at Toys for Bob, Activision has confirmed the team will continue supporting Crash 4. There's been no official word on Crash 5, but the latest jobs are our biggest hint that the franchise isn't out for the count yet.
Now could be a good time to revisit that mysterious Crash 5 tease in It's About Time. Sadly, we have no idea when/if we'll hear more about Toys for Bob's game. We might be in a major year for Crash's anniversary, but there's not much of 2021 left.
Then again, let's remember the Game Awards are this week. As well as celebrating the best of the year, the Game Awards is up there with E3 in terms of massive game announcements. With hopes for updates on everything from Hogwarts Legacy to God of War Ragnarok, a Crash 5 announcement would feel right at home. Pass the Wumpa Fruit.
